ABOUT ME
I started drawing and painting at a very young age, starting at the tender age of two, painting on top of one of my dad's oil paintings! Growing up as the youngest child of three daughters, I always kept myself busy with art and different crafts. My parents, Thys and Sannie Booyens, also painted and encouraged me with my art. I also loves to read, play the flute and write poems. Some of my other creative skills include pottery and making silver jewelry. After school I studied art at the North West University and Studio Visio in Potchefstroom. After two years I decided to study for a teaching diploma instead. In 1986 I got my B.A. (H.E.D) from the Potchefstroom Education Collage. My teaching career started in Secunda and I worked with mentally disabled children and adults for many years. Between teaching and starting a family, I taught private art classes at home in Secunda, Parys and Port Elizabeth. I took part in a few art exhibitions in Potchefstroom and Parys. In 2012 I had my very first solo exhibition in Port Elizabeth. At the moment I am teaching at my own little private school, Hogsback Forest School in Hogsback and painting in my spare time. My big dream is to paint full time and I am busy planning my first art retreat on the mountain. I have two sons one of whom is married. |
